(Neb)- Chadron Earns District Title, Defeats Malcolm
(Chadrad Sports)- The Chadron High volleyball team will head to the state tournament in Lincoln next week after pulling off a 5 set win over Malcolm in the C1-6 Championship game in North Platte on Saturday.
Chadron controlled the first set, and fed off of a handful of Malcolm errors for the 25-14 win.
The Clippers rebounded in set #2 and put the Cardinals in a tough position, jumping out early and never letting off the gas for a 25-16 win to even the match at one set a piece.
Chadron showed pure dominance in the 3rd set, rolling 25-10, but again Malcolm answered the bell and evened the game at 2-2 with a 25-23 4th set victory.
The Red Birds jumped out early in the 5th and decisive set, leading 8-2 before Malcolm got back to with in 11-10, but Chadron close out the game on a 4-1 run to clinch their first state tournament birth since 2016.
Anika Burke was the Chadron Runza Player of the Game, coming up clutch late in the fifth set. On the night Burke had 11 kills and 5 blocks at the net.
Shea Bailey led the Cardinal attack with 15 kills. Allie Ferguson added 11 and 7 blocks.
Chadron, the #6 seed will face #3 Lincoln Lutheran at 6:30 pm on Thursday from Lincoln North Star High School. We will carry that game on Stereo AM 610 KCSR and Chadrad.com.
