(Neb.)- Chadron's Gabriel Blanford To Become Official Eagles Teammate
CHADRON, Neb. -- The men's basketball program at Chadron State College will host a signing celebration in the Chicoine Center on Wednesday, October 23, at 4 p.m., for incoming team member Gabriel Blanford of Chadron, according to a media advisory Monday morning. Media from Chadron and surrounding communities are invited to attend.
Gabriel, a 16-year-old Chadron High School student, will become an official member of the men's basketball team from 2019 through the end of the 2020-21 season. Through Boston-headquartered national nonprofit Team IMPACT's partnership with CSC athletics, the top recruit will attend Eagles practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.
Team IMPACT's mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of team. Gabriel was diagnosed with Trichothiodystrophy in 2014.
Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,900 children with more than 600 colleges and universities in 48 states, reaching over 55,000 participating student athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
At a special media opportunity Wednesday, Gabriel will sign an official Letter of Intent, and Head Men's Basketball Coach Houston Reed, as well as junior guard Brady Delimont, will offer remarks.
The press conference will be held in the Owens-Nauslar conference room at the Chicoine Center.
