(Neb.)-Cardinals Beat Gordon/Rushville And Weather To Open Season
(Chadron, Neb.)-Chadron opened the football season Friday night at home against the Gordon/Rushville Mustangs with a convincing 48-6 win.
Chadron struck early with 9:48 to go in the first period and led by 22 at the half.
The second half did not get started for nearly and hour after officials kept players in the locker rooms because of lighting in the area. Only a light rain fell on the field and the game resumed just before 8 o'clock.
Gordon/Rushville did manage to get six points following a long sixty one yard run that let to their only score. Chadron came right back and scored on the following series.
Sawyer Haag was the Runza Player of the Game, as he had a complete night including picking up one of Gordon/Rushvilles two fumbles on the night. Chadron had one turnover, an interception thrown near the end zone as the team was driving towards a score in the second Quarter.
Gordon/Rushville will play Sidney next week while Chadron travels to Alliance. The Bulldogs lost to York Friday night.
