(Neb.)- Hickstein Falls In Match Play Quarterfinals
(Chadrad Sports) - Chadron's Alpine Hickstein had double-bogeys on the final two holes of regulation and eventually lost on the second extra hole of Tuesday's quarterfinal round of the Nebraska Girls Match Play Championships. Hickstein was eliminated in the quarters last year as well.
Hickstein started the day by winning the final hole to defeat Kristin Goertz of Omaha in the round of 16. Goertz was up 1 after 9 holes, but Hickstein made a charge over the next 4 holes and led by 2 going to the 14th.
Goertz responded by winning 2 of the next 4 holes to pull even going to the 18th, but bogeyed it while Hickstein got a par and the win.
Hickstein's opponent in the quarterfinals was Elkhorn's Megan Whittaker, the same girl she defeated for the Nebraska Girls Amateur Stroke Championship last summer in Columbus.
Hickstein again fell behind early, but once again recovered and had a 2-thole lead through 16 holes before her double-bogeys on 17 and 18 allowed Whittaker to pull even and force extra holes.
Both shot par on 19, but Whittaker came back with a birdie on the 20th after Hickstein had to settle for par and claimed the match.
Whittaker advances to Wednesday's semifinal round at York Country Club.
