(Neb.)-Eagles Have Two Placers In Laramie
LARAMIE, Wyo. – November 4, 2017 – The Chadron State College wrestling team went to the University of Wyoming Cowboy Open on Saturday, and returned with a third place finish by freshmanChance Karst, to go with several other individual accomplishments.
Karst competed in the 141-pound amateur division. Last year Karst went 17-6 but redshirted and competed unattached. On Saturday, he won his first two matches by fall, both coming in the second period, then got caught in a first period pin in his semifinal match against Taylor Gambrill of Colorado School of Mines. He was then rematched against his first two opponents and prevailed twice for the podium finish.
Matthew Kindler went 3-2, with both his losses coming to the same Montana State-Northern opponent at 197 pounds. In the process he defeated Khalil Gipson of Adams State, wrestling unattached, who is a top returning rival in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Evan Smith, at 125 pounds, and Andrew Wilson, at heavyweight, each went 2-2 in their respective weight classes.
The team had one wrestler on the roster who went unattached and won the amateur title at 133 pounds, notching four pins and a decision.
The team's Black and Cardinal Classic is Thursday, November 9, in the Chicoine Center.
