(Colo.)-Helton will play final home game Wednesday

DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton will play his final game at Coors Field on Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox.

Helton recently announced he would retire at the end of the season, bringing an end to his 17-year career with the Rockies.

The team will honor No. 17 — the owner of virtually every offensive record in franchise history — with an on-field ceremony and by passing out 35,000 commemorative Helton bobblehead dolls.

Said Helton: "Seventeen years goes by in a heartbeat. Once you get caught up in a season, caught up going out there and playing, it just happens. The next thing you know you're retiring."

His final game will be Sunday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.
