(Neb.)-CSC Sprinters Place Second At Concordia Meet

SEWARD, Neb. – Chadron State College sprinters Alex Graham and Dean Frances each placed second against some outstanding competition at the Concordia Indoor Track and Field Meet in Seward on Friday.
Several other Eagles also turned in strong performances during the meet, which drew a dozen schools from a four-state area.
Graham was second among the 47 entries in the 60-meter dash in 6.77 seconds to match his season best. Frances was the runner-up among 38 contestants in the 200 meters. His time was 22.23 seconds, just a trifle slower than his season-best of 22.17.
The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team had a season-best time of 3:23.21 while placing third.
 Charith Kapukotuwa and Lanar Newman placed in both of their field events.
Kapukotuwa had a career-best mark of 54- ½ in the shot put and threw the 35-pound weight 56-4 ½. He finished sixth and fifth, respectively, in the events.
Newman was fourth in the triple jump while going 46-2 ¾, his season best by two feet, and placed sixth in the long jump at 22-7.
Both of the Eagles' leading male pole vaulters, Kolten Jelden and Skyler Hoopes, cleared 15-1, but Jelden had fewer misses and finished fourth while Hoopes was eighth among the more than 30 vaulters.
In the women's competition, Alyssa Norton was fourth in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 54-11 ¾. Two CSC sophomores had career bests while finishing sixth in the middle distances. Shelby Guy ran the 800 in 2:26.63 and Rebecca Volf ran the mile in 5:59.70.
Senior Kaelie Jelden was second in the pole vault at 10-11 after she set the school record of 11-7 ¾ the previous week.
Also for the Lady Eagles, Shelby Bozner came off the injury list to place fourth in the high hurdles and senior Trae Patch was seventh in the 200.
