(Neb)-Tecumseh Prison Staffers Going To 12-Hour Shifts
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Another Nebraska prison is going to 12-hour shifts for correctional employees in response to persistent staffing shortages.
Corrections Director Scott Frakes says the change at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in southeast Nebraska will help ensure reliable staffing numbers to run the prison safely.
Union contracts with prison staffers required Frakes to declare a staffing emergency before he could go to 12-hour shifts.
The new schedule going into effect a week from tomorrow will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with staffers working 4 days on and 3 days off.
Frakes made a similar move to 12-hour shifts with a similar emergency declaration earlier this year for the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln.
