(Neb)-SDA Hosting Open House For New Church
CHADRON - The Chadron Seventh-Day Adventist Church is holding an open house today from 3:00-6:00 at its new home just west of the city on Highway 20/385. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held in late April of last year and the congregation began holding services last month in the new $1.7-million dollar one-level building that was the object of some 3 years of planning.
Building committee chairman Chuck Kuchera says the project was fully funded with the local congregation raising all the money except for a 10% contribution from 7th-Day Adventist Kansas-Nebraska region under a policy that has since been scrapped.
The Chadron SDA church had met at its initial building at 6th and Bordeaux since 1927, but Kuchera says with its multiple levels and limited parking no longer met the needs of the congregation. The old building remains for sale.
Although Chadron has seen several major additions and renovations to churches the past couple decades, the Seventh-Day Adventist building is the first completely new church in Chadron since St Patrick's Catholic opened in 1986.
