(Neb)-"Paint The Town" Volunteers Back At It Today
CHADRON - Volunteers with Paint the Town, the new downtown beautification project of murals along the alley in the 200 block between Main Street and Chadron Avenue, hope to complete the first mural today.
All adults in the community invited to join in today anytime between 9:30 and 3:30 at the back of Bloom.
The mural's features were all outlined in on Friday, when adult volunteers painted the roughly top half, while much of the rest was painted yesterday by kids.
Chadron Chamber of Commerce Director and Paint the Town steering committee member Gabby Michna says the mural was designed by local artists in conjunction with store owner Corrie Brennan to reflect both Bloom and the region.
The mural has the outline of the state of Nebraska with Chadron marked on a background of wildflowers found in this area and identified by their common and scientific names.
Michna says Paint The Town will take next weekend off, then resume on the 21-23rd with a mural on the west wall of the Service Barber Shop, which she expects to be finished in time for Fur Trade Days.
Michna hopes the two murals will encourage other owners to offer their walls for painting and other artists to submit plans for future projects.
