(Neb)-Mixed Results On Panhandle Sales Tax Proposals
RUSHVILLE - It was a mixed bag Tuesday when it came to sales tax issues in the Panhandle with 4 passing and 2 failing.
Rushville voters approved by better than 75% a 5-year extension of a half-cent sales tax used primarily to fund the Parkview Lodge Assisted Living Cente while Harrison residents approved a new half-cent sales tax with 59% support.
A similar half-cent infrastructure sales tax was soundly defeated by Scottsbluff voters, getting only 40% support. A similar proposal was also defeated last year, but supporters were optimistic this time because the projects for the tax were specifically listed including a new aquatics center.
Alliance and Gering both reauthorized half-cent LB 840 economic development sales taxes by about 2-1 margins, but Bridgeport voters defeated an LB 840 proposal with 57% opposition.
