(Neb)-Chadron School Board Adopts Sex Offender Policy Listen
CHADRON - The Chadron school district has a new policy on registered sex offenders being allowed on school property. It took four readings for the school board to approve the policy, which includes sex offenders who are parents or guardians of Chadron students,.
The four Chadron principals had concerns with parts of the original proposal that led to the language being tweaked three different times before reaching a version that satisfied all parties.
Board President Tom Menke is actually pleased with how long it took, calling it a great example of the school board's determination to get things right the first time.
The Chadron district had no policy dealing with sex offenders and the board's policy committee adapted one from another district.
The Chadron policy essentially requires a registered sex offender to contact a school in advance and receive written permission from the principal to be on school property or attend school functions.
The full policy will be included in the student-parent handbook that will be sent home with each student when school starts in August.
