(Wyo.)-Casper Police: Officers Justified In Shooting Man Armed With Sword
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Casper police say there is no initial indication that two officers who shot and killed a sword-wielding man broke the law or violated department policy.
The police received a call shortly before midnight Sunday from a convenience store clerk who said a man with a sword had threatened and physically assaulted her. She was not hurt.
A few minutes later, two officers confronted 36-year-old Douglas Oneyear nearby and shot him as he wielded a sword. He died at the scene.
An internal investigation is not yet complete, and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation also is looking into the shooting. The state's finding will be passed on to the Natrona County District Attorney's Office, which will determine if charges are warranted.
The officers have been placed on leave.
