(SD)-Toys R Us Closing Rapid City Store As Part Of National Contraction
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Toys R Us store in Rapid City is among 180 being closed around the country, but the company's store in Sioux Falls will remain open.
Toys R Us once dominated toy sales in the U-S, but filed for bankruptcy protection in September after being squeezed for years by Amazon.com and huge chains such as Walmart while also hobbled by $5-billion dollars in debt.
Chairman and CEO Dave Brandon said in a letter Wednesday that tough decisions are required to save the company, including the closing of about 20% of its U.S. stores starting in February.
