By: John Axtell Posted at: 01/01/2018 11:58 PM
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -  It took less than half-an-hour for Nebraska to register its first traffic fatality of 2018. Omaha police say 67-year old Ann Smock died at an Omaha hospital after her car was struck from behind about 12:20 a-m on U.S. Highway 75 in southeast Omaha.
Police say Smock was northbound when her vehicle was hit from behind by 19-year-old Vismar Carmona-Martinez, who then crossed two lanes and hit a concrete barrier. Carmona-Martinez was not injured but later was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

It also didn't take long for Nebraska to record its first homicide. Grand Island police and medics responding to a call of a shooting around 3:45 found 19-year old Trevor Sok lying wounded on the floor. Sok was taken to a Grand Island hospital, where he died.
