(Neb)-Chadron PD

CHADRON - The Chadron Police Department says its Shop with a Cop program this year was another big success, helping over 180 kids buy presents for family members thanks to cash donations of about $9,000 and many non-cash donations such as stuffed animals and toys.

Officer Derek Bauer, who coordinated the program, says there was an unexpected treat for the kids this year - free tickets to a special showing of the new Star Wars movie at the Eagle Theater thanks to an anonymous donor.

He says donations also made it possible for Shop With A Cop to obtain beds for several children who had none, making the officers of the Chadron Police Department even more grateful to the generous citizens, local businesses, and organizations for their continued support to the program.

Bauer says Chadron is "truly a great community filled with wonderful people willing to help out neighbors," in this case by helping kids buy clothing, toys, food and more for their families.

Shop With a Cop actively begins soliciting contributions in November, but Bauer says donations are welcome any time of the year and will be put toward the following holiday season.
