CHADRON - There are a number of special holiday events in area communities today.

In Hemingford, the Christmas Diorama, hailed as  one of the most spectacular and unique Christmas displays in the United States, is now open through the end of the year.

The Diorama is a pictorial story of Christmas painted on wood panels covering more than 2-1/2 football fields with over 114 wooden cutouts of people, angels, and animals.

Hemingford also has the 6th annual Kris Kringle Christmas Boutique from 9-4:00 at the Box Butte County Fairgrounds.. A list of vendors and other information is available online at hemingfordkriskringlechristmas.com

Santa Claus is starting to make appearance everywhere, and Chadron is no exception. Chamber of Commerce director Brooke Smith says he'll be in downtown Chadron this morning for pictures with kids.

Using his special Christmas magic, Santa will also be at the Mari Sandoz Center from 10-till-noon for a photo fundraiser for Friends of Pets.

Organized by the Chadron State College Upward Bound program, the event has Santa pose with pets with a minimum donation of $5 requested and all the proceeds going to Friends of Pets to help in its work to get abandoned pets new homes.

The Chadron State College Art Guild's annual Christmas Sale wraps up today in the Student Center Ponderosa Room, running 9-7:00. It's a place for Christmas shoppers to buy local art works, a retail outlet for local artists, and a fundraiser for the Art Guild...which collects a commission from sales to support its year-round activities.
