(Neb)-Pine Ridge Hospital Back On "Immediate Jeopardy" Status
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - The Indian Health Service says its struggling hospital on the Pine Ridge Reservation has once again been placed on "immediate jeopardy" status by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
That's a term used when a hospital's actions have caused or are likely to cause serious injury or death to a patient. The Pine Ridge hospital was also in "immediate jeopardy" status for violating quality-of-care standards the last part of last year, but it was lifted in January.
IHS says the Pine Ridge hospital has been notified it won't be able to bill the government for services provided to those eligible for Medicare and Medicaid until it's off immediate jeopardy, but the agency didn't immediately offer additional details to The Associated Press.
