(Neb)-Gering City Budget Cuts Spending Almost 6%
GERING - No one from the public raised any complaints about the proposed Gering city budget during Monday night's public hearing - not surprising since the budget cuts spending 5.7% from the current year and keeps utility rates and user fees unchanged except for a $1.25 storm water fee increase to meet an unfunded federal Monday.
Mayor Tony Kaufman told the budget reflects the council's decision to"tighten its belt, do more with less and balance the city's finances through deeper cuts and absorbing costs." Kaufman noted that the city had held last year's budget to half the historical level of increase and praised Gering city staff and the council for their work to go even farther this year.
Final Action on the Gering city budget will come at a special meeting on Thursday.
