CHADRON -  Young women from Hemingford and Minatare are the new Miss Chadron and Miss Fur Trade Days. Kaelia Nelson and Tristen Wecker were crowned Saturday night in Chadron and will now advance to the Miss Nebraska Pageant next June. Sydny Ridgeway of Gering was voted by her fellow contestants as Miss Congeniality.

Both Nelson and Wecker will be making their second trips to Miss Nebraska. Wecker was last year's Miss Old West Balloon Fest while Nelson, who was the overall talent and interview winner, was Miss Alliance last year and was a 2-time competitor at the Miss Nebraska's OT Pageant.

Because there were only 5 contestants, it was mistakenly thought by many that only 1 title could be awarded, but pageant executive director April Grant says new rules adopted by the Miss America organization a couple years ago allows a title sponsored by a festival with as few as 2 contestants and Miss Fur Trade Days falls under that clause.

Also crowned Saturday night were two new titleholders in the Miss Chadron and Miss Fur Trade Days Outstanding Teen pageants. Named Miss Chadron OT was Kiera Rhodes with Gabriella Wagner Miss Fur Trade Days. Both are from North Platte, as is the OT Miss Congeniality, Rachel Young.
