(Neb)-Nebraska Passport Program Begins 2017 Season  Listen

By: John Axtell Posted at: 05/01/2017 12:05 PM
CHADRON - The 2017 Nebraska Passport campaign, which encourages travelers to explore the state while gathering stamps and earning great prizes, starts today and runs through the end of September.

This summer's program features 80 attractions on 10 themed tours, including one specifically tied to Nebraska 150 - the state's year-long sesquicentennial celebration of statehood.

This is the 8th year for the Passport program and new state tourism director John Ricks expects this year's total to surpass last year's record of more than 87,000.

There are 11 Panhandle sites with Dawes and Sioux County Tourism Director Kristina Harter excited to have 3 in Dawes County, especially one of the area's newest and least-known attractions: Gibbons Honey Farms near Crawford. The others are Fort Robinson State Park and the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center at Chadron State College.

Harter says some past favorites are not included in this year's Passport program, including the most popular one in the state - Chadron's Museum of the Fur Trade.

Harter says there are both hard copy and digital forms of the Passport and stamps. The hard copy passports can be found at all 80 stamp site while the app for the passport is available at

For each completed Passport tour, participants win 15 Nebraska Lottery $1 Scratch tickets with other prizes for 10 stamp milestones capped by a jacket and car decal for all 80 stamps.

Several prizes will also be awarded through drawings held in October. The grand prize is an Omaha Steaks Butcher's Share Quarter of Beef and free chest freezer with other prizes include four Nebraska weekend trips valued at $500 each, and 300 Nebraska Lottery $1 Scratch Tickets.

A full list of the stops can be found at nebraskapassport.com and anyone looking for more summer vacation ideas in the state should go to VisitNebraska.com.
