(Neb)-It's National Travel And Tourism Week Listen
LINCOLN - This is the 33rd annual National Travel and Tourism Week, a yearly celebration that unites communities to celebrate what travel means to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being.
Nebraska Tourism Commission executive director Kathy McKillip says tourism is the state's third-largest industry, supporting over 46,000 jobs in Nebraska and 1 in 9 jobs nationwide, so having a week of celebration is fitting.
Lodging tax collections in Nebraska totaled $5.2-million dollars last year, the highest total ever and a 7.1% increase from 2014. The state's tourism website, VisitNebraska.com, saw a large spike in activity last year and the most recent numbers are up almost 20% from that total.
