(Neb)-Gering, Hot Springs Ties To Tonight's Grammy Awards
LOS ANGELES - The Grammy Awards are tonight and the broadcast may be getting a little more attention than normal from this part of the country because both Hot Springs and Gering have residents or former residents up for the award this year.
Gering native Julia Scozzafava is a member of the Kansas City Chorale, nominated in the "Best Choral Performance," while a recording from Hot Springs resident Karla LaRive's record label PK Productions is up in the "Best Regional Roots Album."
Scozzafava's nomination is for the Rachmaninoff "All Night Vigil," on which she is the featured Alto soloist, and she's going for her second Grammy with the Kansas City Chorale, having won in the same category 3 years ago.
Scozzafava says as watching the Grammys and other awards shows as a little girl always had her thinking how wonderful it would be to be in one of them...and the experience 3 years ago lived up to her dream. She says to be in the audience when the win was announced was an "incredible feeling.
LaRive will be at the ceremony tonight along with the group actually nominated for the Grammy - Windwalker and the MCW.
She was already established in music and entertainment management when she formed PK Productions in 2006 and two Native American Music Awards as a producer.
She's been a voting member of the Grammy's parent organization, the National Academy for Recording Arts and Science since 2009.
