(Chadron)-Around 5 pm on Monday, Chadron fire crews were called to the scene of a car fire near the 500 block of North Morehead. Law enforcement officers from the Chadron Police Department were the first on scene, and reportedly viewed smoke coming from the front end of the car, but no flames. The car was sitting in a driveway next to a garage.
Shortly after that, officers indicated via scanner traffic that flames were visible, and that other vehicles in the vicinity had been moved away from the burning car, which was a black four-door sedan. The street was also closed off near the fire, which was actually on Gordon Avenue, near the corner of Morehead.
Soon after officers saw flames coming from the vehicle, they reported that the fire had spread to the structure. Fire crews were able to get a handle on the blaze in a short period of time as a small crowd gathered just beyond police vehicles watching their efforts.
It is unknown at this time what the cause of the fire was, or how much damage was done to the vehicle or garage. As more information becomes available, we will pass that along to our listeners.
