03/31/2018 - Melvin ‘Mel’ Miskimins

A memorial service for Melvin ‘Mel’ James Miskimins will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Elks Lodge, 120 E. 20th Ave. in Torrington, WY. Please come share your memories of Mel. 
Mel passed away peacefully with several family members by his side on February 25, 2018 after a bout with lung cancer. 
Mel was born on the family ranch near LaGrange, WY on June 18, 1941 to Robert and Chattie (Sweaney) Miskimins.
Mel attended school in Hawk Springs and Wheatland, WY until his sophomore year when the family moved to a farm near Casper, WY. He graduated high school in 1959 at NatronaCountyHigh School
Mel married Joy (Spaulding) Miskimins on January 7, 1960 and had three children, Jake, Riley and Shannon Margaret. 
Mel did many things in his long working career, including truck driver and gas station owner. He spent many years in the Oil & Gas Industry and was particularly proud of the time he spent in the North Sea, stationed in Aberdeen, Scotland and the SaharaDesert in Libya. He started his own downhole tool company, Badger Tools, after returning from the overseas jobs. 
Mel also spent several years in the car business, selling, managing and eventually owning a dealership, Barth-Miskimins Chrysler in Alliance, NE. He finished his career less than three years ago with a second round in consulting in the Oil & Gas Industry.
Mel enjoyed being with friends and family. Each of his grandchildren was very special to him. He enjoyed telling stories about his experiences. He was an avid golfer and spent several winters in Mesquite, NV
Mel was preceded in death by daughter Shannon; parents Robert and Chattie (Sweaney) Miskimins; and brother John Miskimins.
Surviviors are son Jake of Firestone, CO; son Riley (Lori) of Chadron, NE; grandchildren Alexa (Alex) Winston of Windsor, CO, Beau (Baily) Miskimins of Windsor, CO, Dillon (Kalyn) Miskimins of Littleton, CO, Garrett Miskimins of Glenrock, WY, and Shelby Miskimins of Laramie, WY; great-granddaughters Nova and Brett Winston of Windsor, CO; brother Richard Miskimins of Overland Park, KS; brother Bill (Virginia) Miskimins of Torrington, WY; sister Phyllis Black of Torrington, WY; sister Kathleen Gregory of Council Bluff, IA; brother Larry (Bev) Miskimins of Torrington, WY; sister Lois Patterson of Torrington, WY; sister Jean (Gary) Dalton of Torrington, WY; brother Tom (Raeann) Miskimins of Evansville, WY; and special ex-wife Joy Miskimins of Firestone, CO.
