Funeral services for Mel Verdell Lone Hill “Wagli Yohi” “Cetan Kokipapi,” age 69, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the William “Bill” C. Bear Memorial Gym in Batesland, SD with Father Ed Hunt and Senior Catechist Ben Conquering Bear officiating.
Burial will be at Lone Hill Family Cemetery in Kyle, SD.
A one-night wake service will start at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the William “Bill” C. Bear Memorial Gym in Batesland, SD.
Mel was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
Mel was born on September 8, 1948 at the family homestead along Three Mile Creek south of Kyle, SD to Amos Lone Hill and Marie (Fools Crow) Lone Hill. He passed away on February 20, 2018 at Rapid CityRegionalHospital in Rapid City, SD.
Mel is survived by spouse Geneva (Yellow Hair) Lone Hill of Batesland, SD; son Jason (Joanna) Lone Hill of Sharps Corner, SD; daughters Devonna, Trina (Bryce), and Roxann (Naiche) of Batesland, SD; grandsons Jase, Mathias, Callan, and Logan; granddaughters Bella, Wicahpi, Eve, and Zaniya; sisters Cora (Daniel) Spotted Eagle, Vina Yankton of Kyle, SD, Pamela (James) Attack Him, Lolita (Steve) Attack Him of Allen, SD, and Lois White Whirlwind of Oglala, SD; nephews Waylon Dean Spotted Eagle, Duane Spotted Eagle, Will Spotted Eagle, Denny Spotted Eagle, Lloyd Yankton Jr., and Donroy Janis; nieces Troylynne Rock, Darla Janis, Michelle Yellow Hawk, Danielle Spotted Eagle, Lynelle Young, and Mattie Yankton; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins.
Mel was preceded in death by parents Amos and Marie Lone Hill; paternal grandparents Lester Lone Hill and Eva White Thunder; maternal grandparents Andrew Frank Fools Crow and Fannie Afraid of Hawk; brothers Everette and Daniel Lone Hill; and sisters Mildred Lone Hill, Phenette Lone Hill and an infant sister.
