10/26/2017 - Regina Lakota-Plenty Holes

Funeral services for Regina Vera Lakota-Plenty Holes, age 79, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Plenty Holes Residence in Slimbuttes, SD with Pastor Joseph Story officiating. Traditional Lakota services will be provided by Charles Spotted Thunder.
Burial will be at the Plenty Holes Family Cemetery in Slimbuttes, SD.
A one-night wake service will begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Plenty Holes Residence in Slimbuttes, SD.
Regina was born on July 17, 1938 in Pine Ridge, SD to Harry Lakota and Nany (Weasel Bear) Martin. She passed away on October 22, 2017 at the I.H.S.Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.
In 1979, Regina was a secretary for the Spotted Elk Camp in the Collier Community near Slimbuttes, SD for many years. She briefly attended an LPN Nursing program in California. Regina also attended Braynard Indian School, where she studied ministries and also helped interpret the Bible into the Lakota language. She really strived for education, for herself and her family.
Regina was a descendant of Chief Big Foot. She was a sundancer for many years, and she helped bring her kids into the Lakota tradition. She was also a very generous woman. She fed everyone in the family and gave gifts every chance she got.
Her grandfather, Charles Weasel Bear, was one of the first officers on the reservation. He also inspired a lot of his grandchildren to follow in his footsteps.
Regina is survived by sons Clifford S. Running Hawk of Slimbuttes, SD and Juwan Lakota of Albuquerque, NM; daughters Florence Plenty Holes of Batesland, SD, Olivia Plenty Holes of Box Elder, SD, and Misty Lakota-Normand of Arlington, VA; brother Benjamin Lehi of Towaoc, CO; sisters Paulette Weasel Bear of Oglala, SD, Leona Bull Bear of Kyle, SD, Harriett and Audrey Lakota of the # 4 Community near Pine Ridge, SD, Connie Small Bear of Mission, SD, Margaret Chief Eagle of Oglala, SD, and Mary, Joan and Sandra Chief Eagle, all of Pine Ridge, SD; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and great-great-grandchild Ebah Dawn Whiteman of Arlington, VA.
Regina was preceded in death by parents Harry Lakota and Nancy (Weasel Bear) Martin; husband Melvin Samuel Plenty Holes Sr.; son Melvin Plenty Holes Jr.; daughter Delilah Plenty Holes; brothers Floyd and Lester Lakota; great-granddaughter Mahpiya Plenty Holes; and great-grandson Melvin S. Mills.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements for Regina Vera Lakota-Plenty Holes.
