(Neb.)- Hanson To Receive RMAC Summit Award
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State College senior thrower Ashlyn Hanson was named the 2017-18 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Summit Award winner, as announced on Thursday at rmacsports.org.
The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA), participating at the finals sites for each of the RMAC Championships. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above, who participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and competing at the championship.
Hanson is a senior with a 4.00 GPA, majoring in Elementary Education. She currently ranks second in the South Central region and 14th in the nation in women's weight throw with a NCAA Division II provisional distance of 18.33 meters. Last year she placed 13th at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships in hammer throw, and she was a three-time All-RMAC selection in indoor and outdoor track and field.
The men's recipient of the award is Derrick Williams of Colorado State University-Pueblo, who brings a 3.99 GPA into the championships, where he ranks third in the mile.
Hanson and Williams will be recognized at the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
