(Neb)-D1 DU Swamps Lady Eagles
DENVER - Playing back-to-back nights with a Division-1 opponent in the 2nd game didn't work out so well for the Chadron State women...as they were blown out 99-55 last night in an exhibition game at the University of Denver.
The Lady Eagles found themselves down 8-0 and 15-4 as the Pioneers came out running and firing from long-range to hold 20-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
CSC scored the first 6 points of the 2nd quarter to close the gap to 6, but that would be as close as they would be all night as DU put together another run build a 45-25 at intermission before opening the second half with a 13-0 run and cruising to a 71-45 lead going into the final period.
The Eagles didn't shoot that badly overall - their 36.2% (21-58) was just slightly under their 39% for the season - but they were just 3-20 from 3-point range and 10-17 from the foul line. DU, on the other hand, was 35-70 from the floor and15-31 from long-range with a 47-33 advantage in rebounds.
Kalli Feddersen led the Eagles with 16 points and 5 assists, Taryn Foxen added 14 points, and Brooke Turek contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists while Allee Williamson grabbed a team-high 7 boards.
The Pioneers were led by a season-high 21 from Briana Johnson, who was 8-10 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc, and they got a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds from Jordyn Alt.
Since it was an exhibition game, the loss to Denver leaves CSC's record unchanged at 2-3. The Lady Eagles are now off until they open the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season at home next weekend, Friday Dec 1 against Colorado Mines and Sat Dec 2 versus Colorado Christian University.
