(Neb.)-Colorado Christian Drops CSC In Straight Sets
CHADRON, Neb. -- October 28, 2017 -- Chadron State College looked solid against a top Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball team for two sets, before leaving something on the table coming out of intermission as Colorado Christian prevailed 3-0 (21-25, 20-25, 12-25) on Senior Night in the Chicoine Center.
"We didn't compete tonight," said Head CoachRiann Mullis. "All we can really focus on now is these last two weeks, and getting better."
The Cougars weren't exactly sharp in the first set, and the Eagles stayed in toe-to-toe with the visitors, benefiting from four CCU service errors. The home team kept up the pursuit, tying the first set eight times en route to 17-17. CCU then went on an offensive burst and recorded six kills to boost their hitting percentage to .371 to the Eagles' .162.
The Eagles took a defensive stand in set two, recording two blocks and 24 digs to hold CCU hitting at a .175 clip. However this time it was Chadron State serving into the net - five times to be exact.
The third set was a letdown for the Eagles, who had only six kills and allowed four aces as they slid to 5-9 in conference and two matches out of eighth place, behind Black Hills State. They are now 8-14 overall.
The Cougars improve to 14-9 overall and 11-3 in conference, clinching an RMAC Tournament spot and putting them in good position to host a first round tournament match.
Chadron State is on the road for the last two weeks, heading to South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State next weekend.
