(Neb.)-Wayne Ends Chadron High Football Season
(Chadron, Neb.)-Wayne came to Chadron Friday to play in its first post season game in four years and went home with the schools first post season win in over twenty years, defeating the Cardinals 30-28.
Prior to the game a tailgate party was held to raise funds for Dylan Waldron, as he continues to recover from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident earlier this fall. Fans and coaches from both Chadron and Wayne took advantage of the meal served for a donation.
The game saw Wayne put the first points on the board on a one yard touchdown run, with Chadron coming right back to tie the game at 6 to end the first quarter.
Wayne went up 14 to 6 early in the second quarter but Chadron closed it to a two point lead for the Blue Devils on a five yard touchdown pass from Logan Tiensvold to Jeff Cerny.
Wayne closed out the scoring in the first half after a Chadron turnover as Juan Vergara went into the end zone on a five yard run. Wayne led at the half 22-12.
Wayne widen the gap in the third as Vergara took the ball in 15 yards to make the score 30-12.
Chadron made 30-20, after Tiensvold fumbled the ball into the end zone where Chadron fell on the ball and got the two point conversion.
The Cards held Wayne scoreless in the fourth and with 1:34 to go scored the final points of the game on a 15 yard Bila to Cerny pass into the end zone.
Chadron attempted an on side kick that was fumble by Wayne but officials ruled the player was down when he lost the ball.
Chadron finishes the season with only two loses, while Wayne will move on to the second round of playoffs next week.
