The game started off well for Chadron State, now 1-4 this season. Sophomore Katelyn Kruger
hit a double with the bases loaded in the top of the first that scored Katie Londo
and Jessica Eatmon
St. Mary's scored the final three runs of the game. The Rattlers answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the second and tied the game in the fifth inning after a sacrifice fly. They took the lead for good on another solo shot in the sixth inning.
After their explosive first inning, the Eagles were retired in order until the top of the seventh inning. Rebecca Wetsch
led off with a double and Caroline Johnson
entered the game as a pinch runner on second base. Kruger followed with her second double of the day, however, Johnson wasn't able to score.
After a groundout, Casey Polk
hit a fly ball but Johnson was thrown out at home to end the game.
The Eagles finished with four hits in the game, three were doubles.
Chadron State's Aryn Grywusiewicz
picked up the tough luck loss. In six innings of work, she allowed six hits and three runs. She also struck out five.
Chadron State will play five games in three days in Austin, Texas Friday through Sunday. The Eagles will face St. Edward's University, Texas Woman's University and Texas A&M International.
LAS VEGAS – A pair of solo home runs proved to be the difference as St. Mary's of Texas claimed a 3-2 victory over Chadron State College during the final day of the Montana State University-Billings Desert Stinger.
