(S.D.)- Yellow Jacket Women Snap Losing Streak, Take Down WSCU

(Spearfish, SD)- The Yellow Jackets women's basketball team picked up their 11th win of the season on Saturday, just a day after nearing knocking off the 2nd-ranked Colorado Mesa Mavericks on Friday. 

The Jackets picked up where they left off early-on Saturday from the opening whistle on as they beat Western State Colorado University, 66-40, snapping their 5-game losing streak.

Early in the first have the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 19-6 lead just seven minutes into the game before taking a 34-16 halftime advantage.  The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to over 20 points by the halfway mark in the 2nd-half as they led 59-31 with six minutes remaining in the game.

Twelve different Jackets saw playing time on the night as they were led by leading scorer in junior, Courtney Patterson, who finished with a game-high 19 points after going 6-of-12 from the field including 5-of-8 from 3-point range.  Patterson also grabbed four rebounds and three steals defensively.

WSCU's athletic guard, Jade McIntosh, led her team on both ends of the court as she finished with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.  The only other player for WSCU to score in double figures was Cara Walderman who finished with 10 points (7-8 FT).

BHSU junior guard, Chelsey Biegler, was the team's second leading scorer with 13 (6-8 FT) on the night to go with three rebounds.  Senior, Lindsey Fearing, went 3-of-4 from beyong the arch to finish with nine points on 13 minutes.

The Yellow Jackets finished with 11 three-pointers in the contest to just two by the Lady Mountaineers.  Overall as a team, BHSU shot 18-of-46 (39.1-pct) from the field.  The Jacket defense forced WSCU to 25 turnovers which led to 23 points for the Jackets as WSCU shot 25-percent on 12-of-48 shooting.

The next game for the Yellow Jackets (11-10, 10-7 RMAC) will come next Friday, Feb. 14, as they travel to Colorado School of Mines for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
