(S.D.)- Mavericks Drop Jackets 71-64
(Spearfish, SD)- The Yellow Jackets men's basketball team lost Friday night to Colorado Mesa University, 71-64, to move to 8-12 overall and 6-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
CMU's 6-foot-10 center, Ryan Stephan, led the way as the game's leading scorer with 26 points and seven rebounds while going 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. Joe Kiely was the second leading scorer for CMU with 16 points as Mike Melillo had 10.
The leading scorer for the Jackets was sophomore, Myles Henry, who scored 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting and went 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Junior point-guard, Brady Bisgaard, was the Yellow Jackets second leading scorer with 14 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Senior, Tommy Earl, turned in 12 points as Cameron Anderson lead the game with 11 rebounds (10 defense).
After shooting just 26.9-percent (7-26 FG) in the first half, BHSU improved to 44.8-percent shooting in the second half before finishing the game at 36.4-percent (20-55 FG). The Jackets hit 10 three-pointers on the night and went 14-of-19 from the charity stripe.
The Mavericks shot a consistent 44-percent on the night after going 22-of-50 from the field, while gaining an advantage from the free-throw line after going 22-of-26 (84.6-pct) as a team. CMU outrebounded the Jackets 37 to 30.
Tomorrow night the Jackets will host Western State Colorado University with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on Military Appreciation Night beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the women's game. All active military and veterans will gain free admission into the night's games from the Young Center.
