(Neb.)- Eagles Get Meet Off To Fast Start
(Gillette, WY)- Chadron State junior Shelby Bozner of Rock Springs, Wyo., won the pentathlon and the women's distance medley relay team set a school record while winning that event during the opening day of the Birds and the Bees Track and Field Meet in Gillette, Wyo., on Friday.
Bozner scored 3,577 points, the second highest total for a Chadron State woman in the pentathlon, which is composed of five events. Chadron native Caryn Martin set the school record of 3,747 points as a senior in 1993.
Second place on Friday went Bacall Sterling of Colorado Mesa with 3,454 points. CSC's Sami Schmit of Cody, Neb., was fourth with 3,136. Nine women competed.
The distance medley relay, made up of Rebecca Volf of Wood River, Shelby Guy of Akron, Colo., Meagan Nahrwold of Byers, Colo., and Ashley Riesen of Chadron, was timed in 12 minutes, 35 seconds, CSC coach Ryan Baily said. The old school record of 12:48.56 was set in 2012. Guy and Nahrwold also ran on that quartet.
The Birds and Bees Meet, which is being sponsored by Chadron State and Black Hills State, will continue today.
