(Neb.)-Roosevelt outlasts Chadron 62-60
The Chadron girls had two chances to force overtime in the final four seconds Thursday, but couldn't convert, losing to Sioux Falls Roosevelt 62-60 in the first round of the Gillette Energy Classic.
The Lady Cardinals got off to a decent start and led by two after the first quarter, but some hot shooting gave Roosevelt a 31-22 halftime lead. Roosevelt pushed the margin to as much as thirteen points behind six three pointers by Paige Mriden, who finished the game with 27 points.
Chadron was able to mount a comeback and tied the game late, but couldn't take back the lead. They had a chance to go to overtime when they inbounded the ball from under the basket with 3.9 seconds remaining. Ashlea Kerr missed a shot from the left block. Bailea Kerr was able to get the rebound but missed the putback as time expired to give Roosevelt the win.
The Kerr twins led Chadron in scoring with 20 for Ashlea and 19 for Bailea. Peyton Hinn added 13, all in the second half.
Chadron's next opponent will be Mandan, N.D., at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
