Chadron sophomore Kiya Passero (20:42.9) finished a great season with some hardware Friday, taking fourth place at the state cross country meet in Kearney.

The Chadron girls finished fifth in the team standings. Greta Welch (22:17.9) was 40th, Veronica Parish (22:20.4) 42nd, Alison Gardner (22:26.4) 46th, Julianne Dickerson (23:03.8) 61st and Lesley Zepeda (23:33.3) finished 74th.

Chadron's results are especially impressive given that four of the six runners are freshmen, with Passero a sophomore and Parish a junior.

Columbus Scotus took the girls team title, with Mitchell's Celeste Cardona (20:18.4) as the individual champion.

In the boys race, Phil Duncan (17:26.9) took 10th place for Chadron and Alec Burk (17:50.9) finished 20th.

Milford won the boys team title with Mitchell's Levi Avila (17:04.5) as the top individual.
