The Chadron girls cross country team had a successful afternoon Thursday at districts in Ogallala, finishing second in the team competition.

Kiya Passero led the way for the Lady Cardinals with a third place finish (20:34). Greta Welch also earned a medal in seventh place (20:51). Julianne Dickerson just missed the top 15, taking 16th place (21:44).

Cozad finished just two points ahead of Chadron for the district title. Chadron's second place finish qualifies the full team for the state championships.

For the boys, Phillip Duncan (16:47) and Alec Burk (17:02) both ran personal bests. Duncan took second place, with Burk seventh. Both qualify for state.

The boys team missed out on qualifying by one point, finishing fourth.

The state championships will be Friday, Oct. 25 in Kearney.
