(Neb.)-Chadron softball takes second at Lexington tournament
The Chadron softball team went 2-1 Saturday to take second place at the Lexington Invite.
In their first game, Chadron and Lexington traded the lead five times, with the Cardinals coming out on top with a 6-5 win.
Jenny Van Vleet racked up two RBIs on one hit for Chadron. She doubled in the third inning. Danea Ray got her second win of the season despite allowing five runs over six innings. Danea struck out four, walked three and gave up five hits.
In game two, Chadron took down Southern Valley 16-5 thanks to a nine run fourth inning.
Mikki Hastings put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Cardinals. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the second and fourth innings. Hastings, Van Vleet, Ashtyn Nelson and Brit Garza combined for six hits and six RBIs for the Lady Cardinals.
Chadron then fell 9-0 to Adams Central in the championship game. Adams Central managed just four hits off Chadron starter Alex Menke, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out two in four innings.
Chadron's net game will be Tuesday at home against Scottsbluff.
