(Neb.)-Five Eagles qualify for national championship
CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Alyssa Norton, Sadie Waugh, Cody Hunt, Gavan Archibald and Karl McFarlane have each qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 23-25 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.
Norton, a junior from Rushville, is entered in both the shot put and discus. Her season best in the discus is 159-feet, 8-inches, while her top shot put mark is 46-2 ½.
Waugh, a senior from Paxton, is also entered in the discus and she’s thrown it 154-0.
Hunt, a senior from Lingle, Wyo., and a four-time All-American, is among the nation’s leaders in the shot put and his throw of 62-1 ¼ ranks as the third best throw in Division II this spring.
The other two Eagles entered in the national meet will be competing in the hurdles. McFarlane, a junior and three-time All-American from Montego Bay, Jamaica, will run the 110-meter hurdles. His best time this season is 13.93 seconds, which ranks him fourth in D-II.
Archibald, a sophomore from St. Ann, Jamaica, is making his first trip to the national meet after qualifying in the 400 hurdles. His best time is 52.67 seconds.
