(Neb.)-Eagles on the road this weekend
CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team will continue its push for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs this weekend during a four-game series at Regis University.
Saturday’s doubleheaders begin at noon and Sunday’s action starts at 11 a.m.
The top eight teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the RMAC playoffs, which begin May 2 at the No. 1 seed’s home field.
The Eagles enter this weekend’s play with a record of 12-18 overall and 10-13 in the conference. They own a slim lead in percentage points over eighth-place Western New Mexico and ninth-place Fort Lewis.
Regis is 7-16 for the season and 6-16 in the conference, but recently won two games over Fort Lewis, which swept CSC last weekend.
Breanna Backlund leads the Rangers with a .381 batting average. Rachel Ilias is second on the team with a .351 batting average and has driven in a team-high 21 runs.
Following this weekend’s games, Chadron State will host Colorado School of Mines in its home finale Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. The Eagles then close out the regular season with a four-game series at Colorado Mesa, beginning Saturday, April 27.
The Eagles were scheduled to play at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday but that game has been canceled so the Lopers can make up games with Truman State.
