By: Andrew Lacy Posted at: 03/01/2013 05:33 PM
The Chadron girls basketball team was ice cold shooting and got outrebounded by Pierce in a 52-34 loss Friday.

Chadron had to play most of the game without their leading scorer after Ashlea Kerr reinjured her right knee halfway through the first quarter. Despite the injury, the Lady Cardinals had a 12-9 lead after one and were only down by three at halftime.

The game started getting away from Chadron in the third quarter as Pierce used its size advantage to beat Chadron on the boards 26-19. The Jays hit 19 of 25 free throws to pull away for an 18 point win.

Chadron was led by 12 points from Peyton Hinn and 10 from Bailea Kerr. Rachel Wiedenfeld had 16 points for Pierce, including 9 for 9 at the free throw line.

With the win, Pierce advances to face Kearney Catholic for the state championship. Chadron will play Wahoo for third place at 9 a.m. mountain time at Lincoln Northeast.
