LAS VEGAS – The Chadron State College softball team got its offense going in the seventh inning but the Eagles' rally fell short against Western Oregon in the finale of the Desert Stinger Tournament Sunday in Las Vegas.

With the 4-3 victory, Western Oregon improves to 2-6, while Chadron State falls to 1-4.

Prior to the dramatics in the seventh inning, Chadron State trailed the Wolves, 4-0. However, Amy Schartz got things going when she led off with a sharply hit ball to shortstop and Sarah Knudsen followed with a strong shot over the right field fence, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

Following a fly out to right field, Rebecca Wetsch hit her second home run of the weekend, this time a towering shot over center field.

However, Western Oregon Jordan Williams settled in and got the final two batters out to end the Eagles' comeback.

Williams, who entered Sunday's game 0-3, allowed just four hits in the game. Nikki Ritzen added the Eagles' other two hits, both singles.

Over the weekend, Chadron State went 1-4 at the Desert Stinger but they were competitive in every game. The Eagles hit .312 as a team compared to .286 for their opponents and were only outscored, 26-23. In addition, CSC pitchers struck out 27 batters.
