(Neb.)-Mesa Mavericks Top Eagles With Big Second Half

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Colorado Mesa led by just 29-25 at halftime here Saturday night, but outscored Chadron State 39-12 in the second half while winning a men’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball game 68-37.
The Eagles managed just four field goals and four free throws in the second half.
For the game, Mesa shot 56.3 percent (27-48) from the field and the Eagles 26.2 percent (11-42). Neither team shot well from 3-point range. Chadron State was just two of 13 and the Mavericks only one of nine. Both teams scored 13 points from the free throw line.
A pair of seniors, Jeff Hart with 21 points and Colton Burgon with 17, led the Mavericks, who are now 16-5 for the season and 13-4 in the RMAC. Sophomore guard Mike Melillo added 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds for Mesa.
Zac Bargen paced Chadron State with 12 points. Kendrick Holliman added eight points, but no one else had more than five.
The Eagles are now 2-19 for the season.
