(Neb.)-Metro State Too Much For Chadron State
CHADRON – Chadron State gave No. 1 Metro State all it could handle in the Roadrunners’ 63-51 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference loss Friday at Armstrong Gymnasium.
The Roadrunners (17-0, 13-0 RMAC) came into the game having beaten all but two opponents by double-digit points but the Eagles closed within three before Metro pulled away down the stretch.
Preseason Conference Player of the Year Jonathon Morse led Metro State with 16 points on five of 10 shooting with four rebounds. Morse was the only Metro State player to finish in double digits.
Chadron State was led by Grant Stone, who finished with 11 points, including three 3-point field goals. Zac Bargen and Kyle Vinich chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Also for Chadron State, David Downey scored nine points and Justyn Anderson had a team-high three assists.
The Eagles cut the Roadrunners’ lead to three with a little over four minutes to play before Metro went on a 6-0 run to pull away.
Metro State owned the rebounding edge, grabbing 29 compared to the Eagles’ 23. Metro also had 13 offensive boards it turned into 14 points.
Chadron State concludes their home stand tomorrow night against Regis University. Tip-off is schedule for 8 p.m.
