The Chadron girls struggled most of the night Friday, losing to St. Thomas More 59-43.
The Lady Cardinals fell behind early and some hot shooting by the Cavaliers put Chadron in a 35-17 hole at halftime. More extended its lead to 51-28 at the end of the third quarter. Chadron rallied in the fourth but wasn't able to overcome the large deficit.
It was just Chadron's second loss of the season, both against St. Thomas More.
The Lady Cardinals had three players in double figures led by 15 points from Ashlea Kerr, 12 from Bailea Kerr and 11 from Peyton Hinn, but no other player had more than three. More was led by hot shooting from Ciara Duffy, who finished with 25 points, and Alexys Swedlund, who added 19.
The Cardinal boys also had a tough night against a very good St. Thomas More team, losing 53-32.
St. Thomas More hit 10 three pointers in the game including five from Jeron Laurenti and the game was never in doubt. Laurenti finished with 17 points to lead the Cavaliers.
Spencer Eliason had another solid game for the Cardinals, finishing with 19 points and 8 rebounds, but the rest of the team hard a hard time scoring against a good defensive team.
The Lady Cardinals will play at Red Cloud Saturday. The boys are off until they visit Sidney on Feb. 8.
