The Chadron girls basketball used a big fourth quarter to pull away for a tough win over Sidney Friday night, 49-35.
After a low scoring first quarter, the Lady Cardinals had a six point lead at halftime, 22-16. Sidney battled back and a Sarah Mahr three pointer at the buzzer tied the game at 34 after three. Chadron rallied and outscored Sidney 15-1 in the fourth to get the win.
Ashlea Kerr led the way for Chadron with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Briley Hannaford added 14 while taking over ball handling duties as Peyton Hinn sat out most of the second half with foul trouble.
The win snaps a four game winning streak for Sidney, while extending Chadron's streak to seven.
The Chadron boys struggled shooting the ball all night to lose to Sidney by the same 49-35 score.
Sidney's defense shut down the paint to hold Spencer Eliason to just 11 points along with 12 rebounds and Chadron's perimeter players couldn't get shots to fall to make up for it. The lone exception was Vonsinh Sayaloune, who hit four three pointers to lead the Cardinals with 14 points.
Sidney has now won five straight. Both Chadron teams will return to the road Saturday at Douglas, S.D.
