(Neb.)-Cardinals blow out Gordon-Rushville

By: Andrew Lacy Posted at: 01/22/2013 10:32 PM
Everything was clicking for the Chadron girls basketball team Tuesday night as they beat Gordon-Rushville, 80-44.

The Lady Cardinals were up by just four after the first quarter, 16-12, but dominated after that to take a 37-23 halftime lead en route to a 36 point blowout.

The Lady Mustangs struggled mightily with the pressure defense of Chadron, resulting in a lot of turnovers and easy baskets.

Everyone who was in uniform for Chadron scored in the game, including four players in double figures led by 17 points each from Peyton Hinn and Ashlea Kerr. Bailea Kerr had 14 points of her own and Briley Hannaford added 13.

The Chadron boys had a similar performance, picking up a 71-34 win.

The Cardinals set the tone early as Vonsinh Sayaloune knocked down three first half three pointers and Spencer Eliason dominated the paint. Sayaloune finished with 11 points while Eliason had 19 and 8 rebounds.

Chadron had a 34-18 lead at halftime and continued to expand the lead throughout the second half.

The 71 points for Chadron is their best offensive output of the season.

The Cardinals will return home Friday to face the Sidney Red Raiders. The boys will play first on Friday so Sidney's players can watch former Raider Matt Rosenbaum and CSU-Pueblo play against Chadron State that night.
