(Nwb.)-CSC Newcomer Wins Roping At Colorado Rodeo

 LAMAR, Colo. – A newcomer to the Chadron State College rodeo team, Kourt Starr, won the tie down roping at the Lamar College rodeo over the weekend.Starr roped and tied his first calf in 10.7 seconds to finish seventh in the go-round, then completed his second run in 9.3 seconds to win the finals go-round and the averages.

Starr is a native of Dupree, S.D.  He attended Dodge City Community College in Kansas last year and transferred to Chadron State in August.  Since he had not graduated from Dodge City, he had to sit out the first three rodeos in the region this fall.

He was eligible compete for the first time at the Lamar rodeo.  He will have two more years of eligibility remaining after this year.Starr and another CSC cowboy, Lane Day of Bartlett, placed third in the first go-round of team roping at Lamar in 6.8 seconds, but they took a “no time” in the finals on Sunday.

Two CSC cowgirls placed fifth in their events at the Lamar rodeo.  Amy Tierney of Oral, S.D., finished fifth in goat tying in 8.0 and 9.5 seconds and Amy Deichert of Spearfish, S.D., was fifth in barrel racing in 17.2 and 17.3 seconds.Colton Blanchard, a CSC junior from Sulphur, La., won the first go-round of bareback riding by scoring 75 points, but he was bucked off in the finals.

Another CSC cowboy, Trevor Kahl, also made the finals in bareback riding with 57 points, but he also did not make the eight-second whistle in the finals.

The final rodeo of the fall season in the Central Rocky Mountain Region will be this weekend at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.
