(Neb.)-CSC Cowgirl Wins Goat Tying At Sheridan Rodeo

  The first Chadron State College entry to win the averages at a Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeo this fall is Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff.She won the goat tying over the weekend at the Sheridan College rodeo.

The Sheridan rodeo was the third of the fall season in the region.

Winchell placed third in the opening go-round in 7.4 seconds and tied for second in the finals in 7.7 seconds for a total time of 15.1 seconds, the best of the rodeo.Winchell is a transfer from Eastern Wyoming College.

She placed second in the region and third in the nation in goat tying last year. She was second in the event at the Central Wyoming College two weeks ago and had the fastest time of the rodeo in the first go-round of the Chadron State rodeo on week ago, but that goat came untied.

Four more Chadron State contestants placed among the top six in their events at the Sheridan rodeo.

Jace Blackwell of Rapid City was third in saddle bronc riding, Mitch McAdow of Littleton, Colo., was fourth in tie down roping, Amy Deichert of Spearfish was sixth in barrel racing and Amy Tierney of Oral, S.D., was sixth in goat tying.Winchell, Tierney and Abbie Frey of Crawfordsville, Ind., all reached the breakaway roping finals by placing among the top 10 in the first go-round.  However, they failed to catch their calves in the finals and did not place in the averages.

Lamar College, located in southeastern Colorado, will host the region’s rodeo this weekend.
